A portable 8 GB memory card
A memory card is a solid state electronic storage device with a capacity of 8GB. They are used with mobile computers, digital cameras, mobile phones, Music players, video game consoles, etc. The introduction of the variants (Compact Flash, Smart Media, and Miniature Card) of 8GB memory cards, which are smaller than the conventional PC Card in the market, was a revolutionary move. Though the reduction in size has been an advantage, a major drawback has been in its security as large sensitive information can be accessed by unauthorized users improperly.
An USB compatible 8GB memory card has several features such as memory display, flash memory card, fine tuners and as such can play various file formats such as XviD, MP3, TXT, WMA, MPEG4, SP, FLV, JPEG, WAV, BMP, GIF, PNG, FLAC. The MIA’s, SFP’s, GBIC’s, BMP modules capability of converting, transmitting and receiving data within a single housing unit has largely been enhanced by thismemory card.
Qualities of the 8GB memory cards vary largely depending upon the type of company producing them. The products provided by Kingston microSDHC are amongst the best in the world. The ones released by Samsung under the tag 8GB microSD card are much superior to the Speed class 4 Secure Digital High Capacity versions with a read speed of 16mbps and a write speed of 6mbps.
Dataquest has predicted a 40 percent growth of the memory card market with the demand for 8GB memory card expected to grow at an average rate of 2.6 times a year during the next 4 years.
However the use of a memory card has its own limitations when it comes to consumers understanding of its compliance with SD specifications or if it supported by microSDHC devices or its incompatibility with the standard microSD reader, etc.
